hi I am doing my family tree on mothers side and find William Arthur barber marrying Annie Hollingsworth(born 1862) who would have been my mothers grandmother my mother used to talk about a big house that she visited when very young apparently Annie married below herself BUT the question is why is there so many people getting mixed up with the spelling and the location of the house Hollingsworth with a S house near Altrincham Cheshire
any ideas on this would be welcomed :)

Hello everyone,

I have lived in Hollingworth most of my life, hence my stumbling across this website.

I don't have much to add to the historical record apart from the fact that the Old Hall in Mottram was used for nursing the wounded at some point during the two world wars. I'm sure I have a copy of a photograph of this somewhere.

If you're interested in the ancient history of the area you can find some nuggets of information in a book titled "Annals of Hyde and district: [...]"

You can also read about the surrounding areas of Stalybridge and Asthon in Friedrich Engels' book "The Conditions of the Working Class in England".

Whilst I don't want to publicise my email address, I have included it in my entry on this guestbook. This should be visible to the guestbook owner, and I am happy for them to put people in contact with me if they have any questions about the area.

Best wishes,

Jacob

Thank you for your interest in our ancestors. I have on my bucket list a visit to Hollingworth as I have found great pleasure in standing where they stood with my ancestors in Iowa and would like to experience the same there in England and Ireland.Wish me luck.

Hi, contrary to the guestbook note above, the direct descendants of both Hollingworth Hall and of the Old Hall Mottram (Hollinworth) are alive and very well in Australia.
The Hollingworth Hall direct line descendant Simon Holynworth is carrying out DNA research at the moment, trying to see if Valentine can be matched against any known line.
The Old Hall line, from Higham Hollinworth, through Rear Admiral John Ibbetson Hollinworth, comes down to my father William Hollinworth, and my three brothers.
So far, no link with Valentine has been made at all, although Simon thinks that the Old Hall line may contain the final link. We'll have to wait and see :)

Please do not state that the crest is a novelty. Both lines take pride in our lineage and our crest. It's simplicity is due to the very early date the crest was created - later crests had to be more and more detailed to ensure they were different.

Yours! Felicity

I am the great grandson of Cyrus Hollingsworth a councilman for the 13th district of Richmond Indiana. So how's that for "patents of nobility." lol, lets just say it goes down hill fast from there. My grandfather on my father's side married my Aunt on my mothers side and now I have a cuncle! That's my "cousin/uncle" but I digress.. Oh yes, I have a large amount of genealogy work done by my great grandfather! including several old tintypes of Hollingsworths and loads of old black and whites of Hollingsworth Hall, inside and out from before the water company got a hold of her!If you want em you can have em.I ain't doing nothing with it.
